Rite of Passage
So these days it’s cheaper - by far - to pay for a return plane ticket if you want to visit the other side of the country. But I still want to travel across the country, not by plane, but by road. I’ve been overseas, and have spent a lot of time abroad, but this is more a rite-of-passage than a business trip or holiday.
It’s not because of some false sense of patriotism, though. It’s because this country’s great divide has so much to offer despite having so little - character, unbroken panoramas and culture. It’s that last one that means the most.
