Southward
Currently on holiday south-west of Perth. This is the first time I’ve caught a coach down, and thanks to our entertaining bus driver, Pete, it probably won’t be the last.

Currently on holiday south-west of Perth. This is the first time I’ve caught a coach down, and thanks to our entertaining bus driver, Pete, it probably won’t be the last.
It was Emma’s birthday today, so we spent it having pancakes for breakfast, wandering down lane-ways & eating cake. Low-key maybe, but that’s the best way.
More from my modern-day rangefinder (GF1 + 20 f1.7). Getting used to its idiosyncrasies, and to shooting at arms-length.
The new GF1 + 20mm f1.7 combination has been with me everyday since it arrived. I’ve also been tweaking some of the usual PP I’ve been doing — no downloaded actions (I find it hard to use others’ and be happy). A bit cooler, with some more ‘pop’, and a touch more contrast.
PS: I know it’s only Saturday, so treat this as the first part of a two part series.
I know it’s bordering on the overdone, but I couldn’t help myself. Shot with my new Panasonic GF1 + 20mm f1.7.
“The best camera is the one you always have with you”
This is 100% true. Over the last couple of months, I’ve taken more photos with my iPhone than my 5D Mark II. I’m usually one who’s comfortable with the size & constraints of an SLR, but that comfort reached it’s breaking point. I barely used it — and I’d just started a new job. I had no-where near as much time to book shoots, and even with a good bag, it’s not a camera you want to take with you every day.
So I did something extreme: I sold it. I sold it with my beloved 35 f1.4, my cards & all the other bits & pieces, and the next morning I ordered myself a Panasonic GF1 + 20mm f1.7. Crazy, I know — who in there right mind would go from a 5D2 to a micro four-thirds compact? It might be a downgrade in dynamic range, high ISO, auto-focus, video performance and raw image quality, but it’s certainly not a downgrade in usability & enjoyment. Maybe I’ll regret the change, but that’s a pretty big maybe, and if I do, I can always buy another one. What I won’t regret is the ability to shoot everyday, on my commute and on weekends.
The new camera arrives tomorrow. Look forward to a lot more from me here on this blog as a result.
