February 28th →
Something to signify the last day of summer — yellowed grass & sunny days.

My adrenaline-fueled tendencies couldn’t resist posting this. Sublime use of a car rig.

85mm f/1.8 USM goodness.

Great perspective.

The Sandpit →
Time-lapse and tilt-shift? I’m in love. And if you want to know how it was done, then read the interview with the creator at Aerofilm.

February Flowers →
Oh boy, this is just excellent. Perfect, perfect composition and an exposure to die for.

Winter Illusion →
A wonderful little film of winter snowfalls and surburbia, set to 3055 by Olafur Arnalds.

And what a start to the weekend this is.

A Rich Background →
The wallpaper in this is the real focus, but it’s hard not to be inspired by the capture of her hair and color in this shot.

Mermaids →
Beautiful film photography with beautiful subjects.

Magic Forests →
Wonderfully creative — stop-motion, light graffiti & long exposures combine to make a very inventive video.

Green Hill Zone →
Oh, the memories. I still have my old Master System lying about too.

Fame Is Noise →
More 5dmk2 goodness. The way filmmakers around the world have used this camera to create so many great works is just mind-blowing.

With A Viewfinder For An Eye →
Great post-processing: tasteful vignetting and just the right amount of color — but original composition is what made it great to begin with.

Abu Dhabi →
Only thirty minutes drive from Dubai. Hoping I get the time to drive up there when I’m in the UAE at some point this year, because that coastline is breathtaking.

Polaroid Vices →
Cooking & polaroid film — two of my vices.

“Roger That, Houston” →
More fake tilt-shift — not that the ‘fake’ part should take away from the image, because it’s executed oh-so-well. The vibrancy & contrast give it that real miniature village look.

Are You Happy? →
A flow-chart worth following. Don’t sit and flounder if you’re unhappy — be it work, a relationship or something else. Change it, challenge it; because otherwise, it will flow through to the rest of your life and you’ll wake up everyday, dreading getting out of bed, not wanting to go to work/see that other person/talk to people, and that’s a path you don’t want to...

Composite Wastelands →
Brilliantly executed — it borders on realism, and that says a lot about the skill of this artist.

On The Issues Of Paternity →
A throughly involving article on the state of child support & paternity across the United States — the lack of unified legislation between states, and the plight of one father who must continue to pay child support despite the child not being his biologically, and with the mother having married the biological father himself. It doesn’t seem so complex, until you realise the father will...

I Can't Believe It's Not Lomo →
Okay, that’s not entirely true. But a compact camera and a bit of creativity gets you pretty darned close.

Stephen Post →
Deceptively simple artwork with some great ideas. The messy, hand-drawn banner and navigation give the site itself a more personal touch — a real portfolio. There’s not enough of those around these days.

Red on Grey →
Deceptively simple — but what a clean and minimalist exposure.

It's A Little Late →
A week or so overdue maybe, but I just had to share this find. It captures a busy street in Asia so well; the almost-too-bright neon lights, the banners, the crowds and the atmosphere.

On Brighton’s now deceased West Pier. The commentary is the best bit of this gallery, and I suggest you read it.

The perfect cure to Monday-itis — lighting, a little grain & a hint of fun.

Devil in the Detail →
Stop-motion brilliance with nothing more than a Canon 400D, time and — oh, lots of creativity.

Abstract, inspiring & different. What an amazing collection of photographs, photographs on all formats and in all styles.

Shameless Self-Promotion →
Don’t be afraid to promote yourself. The buzzwords may be “networking”, or “making contacts”, but that’s just sugar-coating what can be challenging, frustrating and disenchanting. Getting your work out there, showing the world your art or your craft or your skills, it’s not easy and it never will be. But those who persevere are the ones who ultimately...

Considering the title, I thought this was appropriate. The only problem is that I’m now having serious cravings for these little round fruit.

Rite of Passage →
So these days it’s cheaper - by far - to pay for a return plane ticket if you want to visit the other side of the country. But I still want to travel across the country, not by plane, but by road. I’ve been overseas, and have spent a lot of time abroad, but this is more a rite-of-passage than a business trip or holiday.
It’s not because of some false sense of patriotism, though....

How very retro.

Pastel Pictures →
Muted tones with just the right amount of color & contrast remaining. The entire set is worth visiting, but this one stands out above the rest.

San Fran in '58 →
There is something about decades-old film footage that I can’t put my finger on. I love it all the same though, and Air’s “Alone in Kyoto” (a favorite song of mine) matches it well.

No, really. Let’s go. Because if there’s photographers who can take shots like this alongside, I want to meet them.

Really. I adore her eyes the most, though.

26 Reasons →
I stumbled across this thread by accident — a photographer combatting negative perceptions of Canon’s 50mm f/1.4 USM. And after seeing his results, I’m inclined to side with him on this one.

Winter Ways →
There was a time when I did play with snow, and tip-toed on ice. It was so long ago, but I’d like to do it again. But fifteen-thousand-kilometres is a long way away.

Little Cupcakes →
I couldn’t help but link back to this one — an amazing cookies-and-cream creation from Little Cupcakes, a shop on Degraves Street in Melbourne.
I spent close to $40 here buying as many different cupcakes as I could — from the aforementioned cookies-and-cream, to carrot cake, white chocolate raspberry and many more. The mistake I made was to not bring my camera along with me, and despite...

Indecisive →
I really can’t pick a single set or photo from this artist’s set. But on whim, I’ll pick this one; not because it is better than the rest (they are all fantastic), but because the way the light falls on her hair is different.

Melbourne 2009 →
My own set from my trip to Melbourne last year, in October. Despite the over-abundance of overcast skies, I loved every moment in that city. The culture, the food and the fact that the city never sleeps. I could live there.

Madrid →
A great point is made here, on taking that first photograph with new tools. I think it’s a bit of both, but there’s always that pressure to think in a deeper way, to make that first result memorable:
It’s curious, every time I use a new camera, o try a new film, or experience a new format, usually the first roll or sheet in this case, turn out to be a good picture. I...

I thought I would post a picture that captures what I think of when autumn is mentioned — fallen leaves, windy days and layered clothing.

Adore the perspective in this one — but the vintage clothes and the way the light falls on the crops just caps it off.

Luge Adjustments →
Modifications have been made to the luge course at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics — but unfortunately, too late to save the life of the 21-year-old Nodar Kumaritashvili, who died during a training session before the opening ceremony had even began. There is a video of the terrible disaster, which you can find here — but it is not for the faint of heart.
